From humble beginnings buying and selling nuts and bolts and other fittings from his garage 30 years ago, Roy Thurston and his team have grown King’s Lynn based Optima Metal Services into a leading multi metal stockholder, which also offers pre-fabrication processing services to customers using state-of-the-art laser and forming technology. Its success is a continuous circle of growth, investment, that has continued with further expansion to take it to 60,000 sq/ft of warehouse and manufacturing space.
Optima Metal Services move into stockholding began with stainless steel and aluminium, then with customer demand it added mild steel, that same customer demand then called on Optima to provide a pre-fabrication sub-contract service, profiling and forming sheet and plate to order, so this circle of growth and investment began.
An ongoing reorganisation of its manufacturing capability will see that capacity grow, resulting in two 10kW lasers with 4m x 2m table, a 3kW laser with 3m x 1.5m table and a further 10Kw laser with a 3m table, a tube laser capable of cutting box section, tube and various other profiled sections. The latest investments are part of a £3 million expansion. We now have increased our market share, investment has driven business growth and given us an opportunity to promote staff internally and increase our growing workforce, which currently stands at 142 strong.
